To maintain optimal performance and reliability, you will have to perform certain maintenance tasks from time to time – like for example defragmenting your hard disk drive to ensure files are kept in a contiguous manner. To perform this task you could use the default defragmenting program that comes bundled with your Windows operating system. Or you could go with a software application that lets you defrag and pack your disk drives swiftly and efficiently. That application’s name is Vopt.

We all know that defragmenting the hard disk could take a long, long time – especially if you have a huge HDD and vast amounts of data stored on it. Do not think that Vopt will not turn hours into seconds; what it will do is take the lengthy defragmenting process and give it a significant speed boost. If you use Vopt to regularly defragment your HDD, you could come to discover that the whole process is reduced to mere minutes.

Speaking of using Vopt, you should know that it has a scheduler feature. If you cannot be bothered to defragment your drives, you can set it up so that Vopt automatically defragments them at a specific time – say Friday at 12PM, when you’re out enjoying yourself.

Vopt provides some extra features on top of disk defragmenting. For example the Cleanup feature will remove the following: cookies, Google history, IE history and history cache, memory dumps, temporary files and temporary internet files, typed Run list and URL cache, and Usn journal.

Underneath the “Health” tab you will uncover some other features you might find interesting: the option to check disk for errors, drive failure prediction, and a drive performance analyzer.

When you delete a file, it doesn’t just disappear. It is still on your hard disk and will remain there until it is overwritten. Vopt provides a tool that will overwrite the free space on your hard drive and thus remove all data that may be left – data that could be recovered with 3rd party apps, or read by others.
